Resume Summary vs Objective: What to Write in 2025

The top of your resume sets the tone. For most students and freshers, a short summary or no summary at all works better than a long objective.

Objective (mostly outdated)

Objectives focus on what you want ("Seeking a role where I can grow"). Recruiters care more about what you offer. Use an objective only if the role or form specifically asks for one—and keep it to one short line.

Summary (when to use)

A 2–3 line summary can work if you have a clear profile: "Final-year CS student with 2 internships and projects in full-stack development. Strong in Java and React." Skip it if your experience and education speak for themselves.

For campus and fresher roles

Many recruiters prefer jumping straight to Education and Experience. If you add a summary, make it specific and keyword-rich. Get resume feedback to see if your opening line is helping or taking space.
