How to Tailor Your Resume for Different Job Roles (SDE, Data, Product)

The same experience can be framed differently for different roles. Tailoring increases your chance of getting shortlisted for each type of job.

SDE / Software Engineer

Emphasize languages, frameworks, system design, and scalability. Highlight projects where you built or optimized systems. Include CS fundamentals, algorithms, and relevant tools (Git, Docker, etc.).

Data roles

Lead with SQL, Python, analytics tools, and any ML/statistics. Show how you used data to drive decisions or build models. Mention datasets, metrics, and impact.

Product / PM

Focus on user impact, prioritization, and cross-functional work. Use bullets that show problem-solving, roadmaps, and outcomes for users or business.

Keep a master resume and create role-specific versions. Run each through an ATS score check to ensure keywords and structure match what recruiters look for.
